Lawyer Profile

Jonathan Desbarats works primarily in criminal defence and has acted in a number of high profile, large and complex criminal prosecutions including the Surrey Six and the Wall Centre shooting.
He was called to the bar in 2006 and has represented clients in all levels of court in British Columbia and at the Supreme Court of Canada.

Prior to being called to the bar, Jonathan worked as a journalist and documentary filmmaker. He is member of the Trial Lawyers Association of B.C. Criminal Defence Committee, and a member of the Board of Directors for the Association of Legal Aid Lawyers. Jonathan articled at Donaldson Jetté and later joined Sutherland Jetté before co-founding Pender Litigation. In 2021 he left Pender Litigation to start his own firm, Desbarats Law
